Issue: – Santosh Debbarma was a patient suffering from Paralysis on both legs without any treatment for almost two years and belonged to a very underprivileged poor family in a remotest village under Mohonpur Subdivision. Being parentless and poor, He was living in a miserable condition along with his elder brother, Mr. Usha Ranjan Debbarma, and was expecting for his last days being bed-ridden.
Detailed Incident: – It was during the month of October 2017, when a Video of a particular paralyzed man going viral in Facebook was picked up by Mr. Kishore Debbarma, Member of United Tiprasa Forum (UTF) and contacted through Local Sources heard about Santosh and his deteriorating health condition due to Paralysis. Accordingly upon pursuance from the UTF Team and on seeking approval from his elder brother, the patient was brought to Agartala to be admitted to Agartala Governmental Medical College (Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital) within few days of receiving information. Though the Medical Doctors had less confidence in his recovery, UTF Team showed courage and moved on. Thereupon, a crowd-funding through social media and Personal Contacts was initiated for the treatment of Santosh. Since his relatives and family members weren’t able to assist him in Hospital, UTF Team appointed all-round-the-clock a Special Attendant and a Sweeper having shifting duty hours for proper and quality care of Santosh. After four and half months of continuous treatment, Santosh was discharged from the hospital on 18,02,2018 after recovering from paralysis. However, the Doctors weren’t certain that Santosh could ever walk again in his life. It was at this juncture, that UTF Team decided for performing Physiotherapy on Santosh and started the therapy from March onwards when Mr. Budhilian Hrangkhawl, President of UTF agreed to accommodate Santosh in his home. After rigorous therapy and exercise on Santosh taking aid from Mr. Sajal, Secretary, UTF, the unbelievable thing happened, the bed-ridden two-legged paralyzed Santosh was now a fully cured man walking on two legs. Now, He could walk slowly. By the end of June, Santosh could walk just like any other normal person without any assistance. Upon his full recovery, the UTF Team decided to return him back to his village and accordingly on 04.07.2018, he was taken back to his village by UTF Team lead by Mr. Sajal and Mr. Jauspaul, Treasurer, UTF.
Lessons learnt: – In a near to impossible situation for Santosh to re-live a normal life, when every family members, including Medical Doctors, had given up all hopes of his recovery, UTF Team’s standpoint mission and faith realized his dreams to relive a normal life was possible. Though UTF through its Crowd Funding platform had contributed Rs. 1 (One) Lakh for his treatment, it was the tears of joy in the eyes of his family members and his village friends seeing him fully recovered that made UTF more blessed to carry forward our service for the neediest of society with zeal and new commitments.
